Suburban Psycho

Suburban Psycho was the first film I got to edit in my career from the very start I was in deep contact with the writer to see where the inspiration came from. The films inspiration came from Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, as an editor I admire the films twists and turns and how each characters personality comes to light through just watching them and I love the first shot of in Rear Window where the camera pans round the different buildings to see the neighbours and you instantly get to know them. I also admire how through individual shots you instantly know that the main character who is played by James Stewart is a photographer who has had a bad accident.

As this was my first editing role I came across many difficult challenges but as this was my first time it was also many others first time on camera. From watching the rushes there was some unusable footage with thumbs and booms in shot and some shots generally out of focus. To overcome this problem I tried enlarging some shots to get rid of thumb but this distorted the image and it was unusable. This meant that the storyline had to change and I had to think of my feet for the edit to work. The storyline was meant to end with Elsie being taken away for the murder of Kate and all her assumptions being right against Elsie and John's foolishness but I personally feel that I changed the ending to suit a more Hitchcock ending with the twist and turns as John really did have an affair with Elise.
